Game Day Routine

whitenerdc

Today I am going to take through a typical home game day routine for a student manager. Game day's for a student manager usually means a long and very busy day. This game day is our first home game of the season and we play Carver College, a small school out of Atlanta, Georgia.

9:00 am: Wake up

At 9 am I wake up at my apartment, and begin getting ready for the day knowing that it is going to be a long day. I also head to the Holme Convocation Center

9:30 am: Team Breakfast

Our team breakfast this morning is Waffle House.

10:30:am: Quick Trip to Walmart

My other manager and I had to make a quick trip to Walmart to make sure we had plenty of water and gatorade for the game and for the couple of days after.

11:15 am: Make sure everyone is ready for shoot around

We have to make sure all the players have their practice stuff and its clean and we have to make sure the gym is ready for shoot around.

12:00 pm: Relax a little in the locker room and check with the coaches to see if anything needs to be done.

If everything is good to go for shoot around at 1pm we may get some time to relax a little in the locker as well we will check in with our coaches and see if anything else needs to be done.

1:00 pm: Shoot around.

For the next hour we are in the gym rebounding and make sure everything goes smoothly as the team gets their last preparations for the game.

2:00 pm Pre-Game Meal.

My usual pregame meal for a home game is a piece of grilled chicken with some ziti noodles all covered in marinara sauce and a roll with water, all prepared by the school.

2:30 pm Head back to my apartment.

For this little short time I head back to my apartment and grab my polo, khaki pants, dress shoes and belt before heading back to the gym.

3:00 pm Get the uniforms ready.

This is by far the most important thing. We have to make sure all the uniforms are ready, and paired with the correct size shorts. When all that is ready I distribute the uniforms and place them in their lockers along with their shooting shirts.

4:00 pm Make sure the court is ready for the game.

When making sure the court is ready for the game we have to make sure the basketballs are out on the court, the game boards are under the coaches chair, the timeout stools are by the bench, make sure the blood jersey's are by the bench incase of an emergency situation in which we would need them, and make sure the coaches have plenty of black dry erase markers for the game boards.

4:30 pm head out to the court for pre game warm ups

Mostly during this we rebound and rebound.

6:00 pm Game Time!

8:00 pm Preparing for Laundry.

During this time we get all the Uniforms and wash them, all their shooting shirts and game accessories and wash those as well. During this time I will also eat my post game meal which today was Mellow Mushroom Pizza.

11:30pm Head to my Apartment.

After washing and hanging everything back up in our team closet, and cleaning up from our post game meal I finally get to head home at around 11:30 pm. It was a long day but a successful one as we beat Carver College by 82 points. 105-23.
